Purpose of the Resource
This resource pulls together some of the huge range of information about New Zealand’s young people aged 12 to 24 that is held or produced by government agencies and academic researchers.
Its aim is to provide a picture of young people in New Zealand – where they are, where they’re going to, and how they are doing. It is descriptive rather than analytical - focusing on the "what" and not the "why".
We hope that this resource will be of use to policy-makers, planners, funders, researchers, community organisations, and in fact anyone who works with, plans for or cares about young people.
The resource is divided into two parts: national facts and statistics, and regional data. The national section consists of a brief overview, key demographic data, and detailed statistical information on each of a range of indicators, all accessed via the links above and to the left. A summary of the indicator data can be found at Overview of youth wellbeing. The regional data is accessed via interactive maps in Regional facts & stats .
Methodological information about the statistics, a glossary of common terms, and a selected bibliography can be accessed via the links to the left. The methodological report contains important caveats and notes on the limitations of the data.
