Regional differences
There seemed to be considerable variation in suicide death rates between District Health Boards in the period 2003-2005.
The District Health Boards(1) with the lowest youth suicide death rates in 2003-2005 were Auckland (11.3 deaths per 100,000) and Nelson-Marlborough (13.6 deaths per 100,000).
Whanganui District Health Board recorded the highest youth suicide death rate (32.9 per 100,000), followed by Southland (31.3 per 100,000).
