Self-rated general health

International comparisons

International data on SF-36 mean scores for the youth population is not available.

However, the Eurostat database (see link at right) presents statistics from the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) survey that include a measure of self-rated general health on a five-point scale of Very Good, Good, Fair, Bad or Very Bad.

This measure shows that in 24 of the 27 European countries surveyed, over 85 percent of the population aged 15 to 24 described their health as Very Good or Good.  In comparison, the New Zealand Health Survey 2006/07 found that 92.1 percent of New Zealanders aged 15 to 24 rated their health as Excellent, Very Good or Good on a six-point scale.
