Sex differences
Young men have more than double the mortality rate of young women.
In 2006, among those aged 15 to 19, the death rate for males was 0.9 per 1,000, compared with 0.4 per 1,000 females. The gender gap was even larger among those aged 20 to 24, with 0.9 deaths per 1,000 males and 0.3 deaths per 1,000 females.
