At ages 12 to 24, Māori girls and young women were more likely to report being able to hold a conversation in Māori than boys and young men.
In 2006, 21.1 percent of Māori males aged 12 to 24 reported being able to converse in Māori, compared to 24.4 percent of Māori females aged 12 to 24.
