Tertiary attainment

International comparisons

In 2005, 26 percent of New Zealand people aged 25 to 34 had a bachelor’s degree or higher, just over the OECD average of 24 percent.

New Zealand ranked 16th equal (with Poland and Ireland) out of 35 developed countries on this measure.

Our rate was slightly lower than that of the USA, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom (30, 29, 28 and 27 percent respectively).(1)
