Participation in education
Age differences
Educational enrolment rates decline with age.
In 2006, 96.5 percent of 15 year olds were enrolled in some type of education, compared to 22.9 percent of 24 year olds.
Naturally enough, the type of education young people are enrolled in also changes with age. In 2006, almost half of 15 to 19 year olds (49.2 percent) were enrolled in secondary schools, with 23.7 percent enrolled with tertiary institutions. At age 20 to 24, almost 32.8 percent of young people were enrolled with tertiary institutions, with just 0.5 percent enrolled at secondary schools.
Fewer than 1 percent of young people are home-schooled.
