Industry training and apprenticeships

Age differences

In 2007, participation in industry training and Modern Apprenticeships varied considerably across the 15 to 24 age group.

The overall proportion of young people who were Modern Apprentices rose to a peak of 3.9 percent at age 19 before gradually falling off in the early 20s (which is to be expected as new Modern Apprentices must be aged 16 to 21).

The proportion of young people who were Industry Trainees rose sharply from the mid-teens to 10.9 percent at age 20, and remained high throughout the early 20s.
