Regional differences
There was considerable variation across Police districts in the rate per 10,000 population of non-traffic apprehensions of young people in 2006.
Among young people aged 14 to 16, the highest rate of apprehension was in the Waikato district, and the lowest in the Auckland district. The Waikato district also had the highest rate of apprehensions per 10,000 young people aged 17 to 24, by a considerable margin, and the Tasman district had the lowest.
