Having children at younger ages is more common in New Zealand than in most other developed countries.
According the most recent available data, New Zealand’s birth rate among young women under the age of 20 was the second highest (after the United States) out of 14 developed countries. New Zealand’s birth rate among young women aged 20 to 24 in 2006 was third highest after England, Wales and the United States – see Statistics New Zealand's Demographic Trends publication (via link at right).
