Ethnic differences

There are significant differences in parenting patterns across ethnic groups.

On average, Mäori and Pacific women continue to bear more children and at younger ages than European or Asian women.  Over the period 2000 to 2002 the birth rate among young Mäori women aged 15 to 19 years was more than triple the birth rate of young European women.
